It
is composed of 10 members: 1 full professor, 2 associate professors, 6
permanent researchers and 1 administrative person. The research staffs
have technical education in computer science and engineering. The head
of DIT is Professor Wojciech Cellary.
The
research interests of DIT are focused on different aspects of database
technology including modelling, management, transactions, collaboration,
distribution, heterogeneity, interoperability, versioning, and data visualisation.
More precisely the research interests include the following:
Virtual
reality: Modelling virtual reality in databases, providing persistency
to virtual reality worlds, data visualisation in virtual reality, high
level virtual reality languages;
Dataweb
Technology and Database Infrastructure: Web access to databases, database
web servers, web interfaces to databases, multiversion databases;
Collaborative
Systems: Strategies of human co-operation over networks, database support
for collaboration, data and transaction models for co-operative systems;
Interoperability
Infrastructures: Describing metadata on the Web, providing semantic interoperability
through metadata.
Intelligent
Agents: Agents for finding, collecting and collating data on the net,
database loading by intelligent agents;
Electronic
Catalogues: Tools for the creation and dynamic adaptation of electronic
catalogues, electronic market research, integrated access to multiple
distributed heterogeneous electronic catalogues;
