Virtual Exhibitions

What is 'Virtual Expo Web'?

Virtual: something which is a representation rather than the ‘real’ thing, thus ‘virtual reality’ [1].

Expo: a collection of things (goods or works of art etc.) for public display [2].

Web: a collection of Internet sites that offer text, graphics, sound and animation through the hypertext transfer protocol [3].

We like to think of 'Virtual Expo Web' as a 'set of technologies, particularly 3D and virtual reality on the Internet that allows you to present or exhibit your digital content, i.e. graphics, sound, animations, etc. as an integral part of your Web site in an interactive and interesting way'.

Virtual Expo Web is a 'University Consultancy' set up to promote the results and expertise developed on successful European Union IST projects such as the ARCO project—ARCO stands for Augmented Representation of Cultural Objects. ARCO has designed, implemented and now commercialised its technology to build virtual exhibitions on the web—a virtual exhibition on the web is basically a 3D enabled web site, so for example it could be your existing web site with 3D digital content added. In a museum context we might call such a 3D enabled website a 'virtual museum', for a car sales operation we might might call it a 'virtual showroom' and so on. Virtual Exhibitions can use 3D technologies and other associated technologies to design, digitize, manage, build and publish your virtual exhibitions to the web.
